Bargaining in Croatia
Updated: Sep 21, 2020
Croatia is a Mediterranean country which is why many people expect it to be similar to some other nearby destinations. Whilst a lot of things are the same, there are some differences such as bargaining rules. In general bargaining in Croatia is illegal. When you enter the store, the price is set and not a subject to change. If you try to bargain, you might offend the sales person.
However, in some rare situations bargaining is possible. For example, you might et a better deal on a farmer's market or in a jewelry store but you should never ask for a price drop yourself otherwise you might earn unpleasant epithet. Sometimes the owner will place an offer if he or she notices you are uncertain about your purchase, but be aware that will happen only sometimes.
